What can I do when my computer crashes?
Computers crash for a variety of reasons. The first thing to do is restart the computer and immediately write down what you were doing when the computer crashed and what (if any) information or error messages were shown. This will help you and us identify more quickly what the problem may be.
How can I clean my keyboard?
It’s important to keep both your keyboard and mouse clean. This is even more important if you are using a laptop due to the sensitive equipment which is just beneath.
To clean your keyboard, start by turning your keyboard or laptop upside down and gently shake the equipment to clear out any loose debris. For stubborn debris, gently use a can of compressed air. Make sure you follow the directions on the can of air to ensure you do not hurt yourself with frostbite or your equipment. For dirty keys, turn off your computer and take a slightly damp cloth and wipe the top of each key. Never spray any liquid or cleanser into your keyboard.
My computer is telling me it has a lot of viruses. What do I do?
Question everything. One of the biggest scams currently circulating is the fake virus or malware screen. This scam normally provides you with a phone number to call in order to have the viruses removed. The screen may even appear to be directly from Microsoft. We call this a scare tactic and it works.
Now more than ever people’s lives, businesses, family photos, and more reside on their personal computer or phone. The scare of potentially losing all that data is enough to convince them to pick up that phone.
When you call, a very happy person apologizes that you are having the issue and then asks to remote (connect) into your computer to fix the issue. Once connected, they put a system password on your computer and then tell you it’s going to cost $200, $300, or even thousands of dollars to unlock the computer depending on what you tell them about the data on your machine. This is essentially holding your computer hostage. Once a system password is created, there is nothing our shop or you can do to remove it easily.

Does MadCo Computers sell parts or tools?
Yes and no. We have a select variety of equipment and tools on hand in the shop. However, we can order and have just about any part possible to our shop and in your hands within 2 working days.
We are a small shop, so we only keep the most requested or needed items in stock in order to keep our overhead costs low and our prices lower.
Can I bring my computer or gaming system to update on your fast internet?
Absolutely. We live in Madison County and know the struggle of slow connection speeds of Frontier and the data limitations of satellite internet. The good news is we will be offering residents the opportunity to come in and update their systems on our fast connection. There will be a small fee of $10.00 for the first hour and $5.00 for each additional. The computer or gaming system can be left at our shop for the duration of the update while you grab lunch or while you’re at work. You will only be charged for the time it takes for your system to complete its updates or downloads.
Please note: We will have a limit on the number of systems allowed per day to ensure our connection stays fast and does not bog down. Give us a call and schedule your slot.
